SES最初是设计用以评定青少年关于自我价值和自我接纳的总体感受。
该量表由10个条目组成,设计中充分考虑了测定的方便。受试者直接报告这些描述是否符合他们自己。分四级评分,1表示非常符合,2表示符合,3表示不符合,4表示很不符合。
最初的样本来自美国纽约州随机选出的10所中学中的5024名高中、初中学生。总分范围是10-40分,分值越高,自尊程度越高。
