MBTI是一种自我报告式的人格测评工具，用以衡量和描述人们在获取信息、作出决策、对待生活等方面的心理活动规律和不同的人格类型表现。
职业测试
在工作场域中，研究发现，高校教师中，N型（直觉）比例较高，他们倾向于使用抽象、创造性的方式传授知识；而医务工作者中，xSTJ型比例较大，这项工作对具体感觉（S）、逻辑思维（T）和主观判断力（J）的要求更高；而企业管理者通常以xxTJ型为主，他们更重视思考（T）与判断（J），会依据自身对世界的判断来构建规则，并且倾向于对自己及他人发出严格的指令。
教育学习
MBTI创始人Myers早在1962年就对27所学校的高中生进行了人格类型与学习成绩的相关研究,发现学习成绩好的学生,其人格类型中多具有N、I、J和T。罗正学、苗丹民、皇甫恩和陈足怀(2003)的研究发现，MBTI能较好地预测陆军学院学员的胜任特征。施春华、盛海娟和林晓娇(2009)通过探讨研究生的人格类型与其应付方式之间的关系，试图为研究生的教育和管理提供依据。
